‘A’ certificate for Thuppaki !

As the Vishwaroopam camp anxiously hopes a positive nod by the Madras High Court a surprising reconsideration became a reason enough for disappointment midst ardent Vijay fans.Their Illayathalapathy Vijay starrer Thuppaki just crossed a respectable 75th day at the box offices. However, the celebrations were cut short and its remaining collections in all probability may take a beating as now the movie may carry the baggage of an A certificate with it.

Even though director AR Muragadoss had earlier deleted five scenes from the final cut of the movie after a request by Abdul Rahim the General Secretary of an infamous Muslim outfit. The partly solved case was taken up again as it has been held responsible for hurting the sentiments of a religion and promoting communal hatred with its content.

Earlier in the day the Madras High Court forwarded a request to the Central Government seeking a withdrawal of the U certificate. The final decision is pending but whatever be the verdict, it is certain that the movie has already basked in a lion share of profits. More importantly the decision has sparked off yet another question on the validity of ‘The Censor Board’ and the weight of its decisions in the state.
