BJP’s PM candidate Narendra Modi paid a visit to south superstar Rajinikanth on Sunday evening.
The Gujarat CM was in Chennai to address an election rally. He dropped by at Rajinikanth’s Poes Garden residence to meet and greet the star. Modi was dressed in a veshti (South Indian dhoti) for the visit.
While Narendra Modi’s visit has sparked the speculation that Rajinikanth might publicly support his party, the superstar refrained from making any statement to that effect. The 30-minute meeting was described both by the BJP spokesperson and Rajinikanth as ‘a personal meeting’.
Speaking to the press, Rajinikanth said Modi is his well-wisher. “My good wishes to him,” said the actor.
Rajinikanth also disclosed that Narendra Modi had met him when he was in hospital. Back then, he had invited the politician to his home for tea whenever he arrived in Chennai. The meeting on Sunday was apparently a follow-up of that invitation but very cleverly timed.
It can be recalled that Rajinikanth was wooed by the BJP even during the 2009 Lok Sabha elections, but the superstar did not back the party. In 2005 elections, he had almost threw his weight behind the party, but backed out later.
